Experience

• Tommy serves as Director of the Advocacy Center’s Housing Justice Program, a strategically redesigned initiative aimed at preventing evictions and improving housing stability for low-income tenants in Mecklenburg County. He offers immediate assistance to unrepresented tenants, defends against evictions, negotiates with landlords, provides legal advice, and pursues counterclaims when appropriate.
• Before joining the Advocacy Center in March 2026, Tommy handled over 1,000 landlord-tenant disputes as a Supervising Attorney at Legal Aid of North Carolina (2018-2026). He also handled complex litigation at a large North Carolina firm (1998-2018) and tried federal tax cases (1990-1998).
