Get to Know… Khristen Sellers

“Advocating for the rights of all North Carolinians is not just my mission—it’s my calling.
Whether addressing housing inequities, fostering understanding or supporting vulnerable populations, I am deeply committed to working with the Advocacy Center to support the needs of our communities.

Experience

  • Khristen is responsible for assisting low-income families by telephone and online to access and use health care coverage under Medicaid and in resolving disputes with Medicaid health insurance plans.
  • Before joining the Advocacy Center in November 2024, Khristen served as a Client Council member for Legal Aid of North Carolina for over five years, along with serving on their Board of Directors. Her experience includes Medicare advocacy and customer support, years as a permanent substitute teacher, and a decade as an entrepreneur and Founder of Teaching Ourselves Understanding & Resolutions (T.O.U.R), a nonprofit that is dedicated to educating and support rural communities through advocacy work and awareness building.
  • Khristen was recognized and honored with the Fair Housing Justice Award from Legal Aid of North Carolina in 2016 and the United Against Hate Award from the Eastern District of NC Justice Department.
