Pro Bono Eligibility Screenings in the Charlotte Immigration Court CLE Registration

The Advocacy Center, in conjunction with AILA-Carolinas and the CAIR Coalition, will be sponsoring a 2-part CLE to empower attorneys to represent immigrants who are in removal proceedings and, therefore, in danger of being deported from the US and separated from their families here.

The first part of the CLE, which will educate attorneys about practice and procedure in immigration court, will be held on December 8, 2022 at the Advocacy Center, 5535 Albemarle Road, from 8:30am-1:00pm.   The second part of the CLE, which will cover humanitarian and family-based immigration remedies, will take place on a date to be determined in January 2023.

The CLE is offered free of charge but immigration attorneys who attend will be asked to provide two pro bono screening consults to immigrant respondents through the Pro Bono Room Program at the Charlotte Immigration Court.  Non-immigration attorneys who attend will be asked to defend one immigrant respondent against removal through the Pro Bono Room Program.

Assistant Chief Immigration Judge Theresa Holmes-Simmons plans to provide the opening remarks for the series.

Lunch will be offered at a cost of $18.00 per person.  Individuals who prefer to attend virtually will have that option.
