Civil legal needs are basic needs.
As Partners in Justice, Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy and Legal Aid of North Carolina-Charlotte help people facing issues of safety, housing and financial insecurity, and family stability.
Nearly 4 in 10 Mecklenburg County households struggle to afford life’s essentials. Many are working families who face impossible choices between housing, food, transportation, child care, and other necessities. [wfae.org]
71% of low-income residents experienced a civil legal problem last year.
Yet only 14% received legal help for their civil legal problem.
The need for our services is growing. Housing instability alone tells part of the story: eviction filings in Mecklenburg County have more than doubled since 2021, with over 52,000 filings last year alone. A legal problem can threaten a family’s home, safety, health, income, or future. Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy and Legal Aid of North Carolina-Charlotte work together to remove these barriers and help people achieve lasting stability.
Proceeds from this event help open doors to safety, opportunity, and justice for thousands of Charlotte-area neighbors.
