Get to Know… Tracy Valdez

“As a first-generation Mexican-American, I grew up being the voice for my parents in navigating various bureaucratic systems. This fostered a sense of responsibility to advocate for those who are unable to advocate for themselves. The Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy is the perfect place for me to make a meaningful impact on the Latino community.

Experience

  • Tracy joined the Advocacy Center in June 2024 and has been providing legal support to unaccompanied minors in navigating the United States immigration system.
  • Before joining the Advocacy Center, Tracy served as a judicial intern for the Honorable Justice Allison Riggs at the North Carolina Supreme Court, where she provided invaluable legal recommendations on cases presented for oral argument. Before this, she worked as a Summer Fellow for the Yale Law School – Veterans Legal Services Organization, where she helped veterans with benefits and discharge claims through administrative and litigation venues.
  • Prior to attending law school, Tracy worked as a bilingual paralegal for Tin Fulton Walker & Owen, where she provided support with immigration and criminal cases.
