Get to Know… Shanelle Tate

“I work at the Advocacy Center because I know firsthand what our clients have been through and the importance of having an advocate that empathizes with their lived experiences. I aim to not give a voice to the voiceless, but rather amplify the voices of those who have been silenced by systemic inequality and restore their faith in society. I believe that every interaction is an opportunity to change the course of history, no matter how small.

Experience

  • Shanelle assists low-income, underserved communities with diverse needs relating to health insurance, food security, and more. She also serves as the Family Support and Health Care Outreach Advocacy team chair, where she assists the marketing team in developing, coordinating, and attending community events.
  • Before joining the Advocacy Center in October 2021, Shanelle worked for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. She previously served at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, Lexington Police Department, and Right Moves for Youth in various internships serving low-income communities experiencing homelessness, domestic violence, and children at risk.
