April Bourommavong

Ombudsman

April Bourommavong serves as an Ombudsman in the Family Support and Health Care Program at Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy. In their role, April assists people who are eligible for Medicaid or who have questions about Medicaid in North Carolina.

Prior to joining the Advocacy Center in October 2023, April volunteered at multiple naturalization workshops across the state to help community members apply for citizenship and assisted voter outreach canvasses in immigrant communities. They have a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a second major in Global Studies and a minor in Health and Society from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In their leisure time, April enjoys volunteering at community organizations related to her passion for immigration justice reform, along with supporting small businesses, trying various foods and cuisines. Since high school, they have volunteered at SEAC Village’s naturalization workshops, and they currently serve as a mentor in their youth program.

April works at the Advocacy Center because of their experience growing up as part of a refugee family in Charlotte. Our organization’s mission of pursuing justice for those in need resonates deeply with them. “I work for [Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy] because I am passionate about supporting and empowering fellow community members so that they are equipped to thrive.”
