Paralegal Advocate, Health Insurance Navigator

Shanelle Tate serves as Paralegal Advocate and Health Insurance Navigator in the Family Support and Health Care department at Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy. In her roles, Shanelle helps families and individuals apply for different forms of healthcare and provides support to them during coverage disputes. Additionally, she’s a member of our organization’s Racial Equity Change Team, Pride Committee, and Outreach Team.

Prior to joining the Advocacy Center in October 2021, Shanelle worked as a preschool and elementary school educator working with children with developmental delays and learning disabilities. While an undergrad, she served as an Intern for the Lexington Police Department, Program Assistant for The New York Times, and Vice Chair of the Guilford County Democratic Party Precinct G45.  Shanelle received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro; and a Certificate in Paralegal Studies from American Public University.

In her leisure time, Shanelle enjoys reading, writing, spending time with friends, and attending church service. She is a member of Tabernacle of Praise Worship Center and serves on the Marketing team. Shanelle works at the Advocacy Center because she feels it is her duty to give back the aid her family received during her childhood and serve individuals in the same capacity. “As a child, I experienced abject poverty and was a beneficiary of many governmental services. Organizations like Legal Aid of New York, the Children’s Aid Society, and the New York Times supported, mentored, and provided resources to me and my family. Educational mentors instilled the importance of a quality education as well.”
