Paralegal-Advocate

Maya Barnhart serves as Paralegal-Advocate in the Veterans Legal Services Unit at Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy.

Prior to joining the Advocacy Center in March 2023, Maya served as a Title Support Specialist working in the Foreclosure/Bankruptcy department at McMichael Taylor and Gray, LLC. Prior to this experience, she completed the Paralegal PACE Searight Program at Gardner-Webb University. In addition to this certification, Maya has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a minor in Human Rights Studies from the University of North Carolina at Asheville. In her leisure time, Maya enjoys live music, hiking, photography, and practicing yoga. She is also a member of UNC Asheville’s Black Student Union Volunteer at Asheville for Justice, a mutual aid organization.

Maya works for the Advocacy Center because of her passion for cultivating community and providing help where she can. “I feel most fulfilled when I am in spaces where I can make an impact whether it is big or small. I see that [the Advocacy Center] is rooted in this type of work, and I am eager to learn new ways in which I can give back to my community and provide assistance to those that need it!”
